Nelson Mandela Day in Durban

In response to the Nelson Mandela Foundation’s international call for people to contribute 67 minutes of their time on Madiba’s birthday towards a charitable cause, Tsogo Sun donated resources and time to worthy organisations that needed a helping hand.

Part of leaving a living legacy for our future leaders in a world where knowledge truly is power, some of the Tsogo Sun hotels in KwaZulu-Natal focused their efforts in helping build a bright future through education and promoting sustainable feeding beyond the 18th of July 2016.

The Durban hotels got involved in the following activities:

  • Garden Court Marine Parade spent their Nelson Mandela Day covering over 250 children’s textbooks, assisting with their feeding scheme and repainting their school bathrooms at Addington Primary.
  • Southern Sun Elangeni and Maharani and Garden Court Umhlanga staff spent time with the children at the William Clark Gardens/Othandweni centre. The team painted the centre’s fencing, sorted out their donation room and prepared a butternut soup with bread and cupcakes for all to enjoy.
  • Garden Court South Beach visited the Amandawe Community Centre and made various repairs to the hall including plumbing, building stairs, repainting, replacing tiles and improving their feeding kitchen, gardens and grounds.
  • The Beverly Hills hotel hosted the LIV Village caregivers and mothers who work with orphaned and vulnerable children and treated them to a hearty breakfast.
