Over the past few months, junior Chefs and Wine Stewards from around the country have competed in the Distell Inter Hotel Challenge, organized by Showcook. An annual event on the hospitality calendar, the Inter Hotel Challenge aims to provide an environment of mentorship for the young candidates who participate and compete in various categories, with the ultimate goal of being named the Best Chef and Best Wine Steward.
This year marked the 5th Challenge, and culminated in a glittering awards gala dinner hosted at Southern Sun Cape Sun.
We were proudly represented by candidates from 7 of our hotels including the Beverly Hills, InterContinental O.R. Tambo, Palazzo, Southern Sun Cape Sun, Southern Sun Elangeni & Maharani, Southern Sun The Cullinan, Southern Sun Waterfront, and saw a number of our candidates taking home awards.
Most notably was Eugene Ramcharan from the Beverly Hills hotel, who won the prestigious award of Best Chef 2017.
Other awards won included:
• Best Starter: Nicholas Freitas from The Palazzo
• Best Presentation: Litha Salimani from Southern Sun Waterfront
• Showcook ‘Man of the Match’: Shaun Munro from Southern Sun Elangeni & Maharani
