October Fun at Suncoast

American novelist – dark romantic and short-story writer – Nathaniel Hawthorne, once said “There is no season when such pleasant and sunny spots may be lighted on, and produce such pleasant an effect on the feelings, as now in October!” and as we approach the tenth month of 2016, it’s a pretty fitting quote.

The month of October at Suncoast Casino, Hotels & Entertainment is one that is packed with a whole host of action, dance and soul-soothing music. Kicking things off is the last game at Boktown, where the Springboks take on New Zealand in the Castle Lager Rugby Championship. Our Bokke may not have played well so far in this year’s championship…however, Bok supporters don’t only come for the rugby and Boktown is the ideal venue for the camaraderie and banter that make an outing like this so special.

Adding to the vibe, is the opportunity to win great prizes and bump into former Springbok players in an atmosphere, that can only be created by a bunch of like-minded rugby enthusiasts! Bok supporters of all ages are welcome and the kiddies area is an added attraction for the youngsters.

This month we celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Tsogo Sun Amashova Durban Classic, South Africa’s oldest ‘classic’ cycle race. Thousands of cyclists will take part in the 35km Fun Ride, 65km Half Challenge and gruelling 106km race on Sunday 16th October. If you’re not participating in the race then come down to the finish line at Suncoast and show your support!

The fast-paced and action-packed a’Quelle TinMan Triathlon is a swimming, running and cycling event that caters for both professional and novice athletes who are looking for a challenge. There are four separate events that include the 10km Beachfront Run, TinMan Mini Tri, TinMan Sprint Tri and TinMan Challenge.

Then there is the Sunday Beats with local Durban band, The Gus Brown Band performing this weekend followed by bassist and vocalist, Trevor Donjeany towards the end of the month.  The Gus Brown Band are a group of 5 Warner Beach-based musicians who play a mix of folk/funky original music. Their name comes from the road on which they first began jamming their tunes, Gus Brown Road. They are a zany bunch of muso’s who have performed at numerous musical festivals such as Splashy Fen and White Mountain, private functions, bars and cafes in and around Durban.

Soothing our souls with the bass guitar is Durban born musician Trevor Donjeany, an internationally-renowned bassist who has played on international platforms. His extensive expertise and reputation as a recognised bassist has seen him travel the world and perform for various audiences in countries like Dubai, Hong Kong, Switzerland, England, Germany and South America.

As the weather in and around Durban heats up with the upcoming summer season, the Red Salsa team continues to spice things up at Suncoast with monthly Open Air Salsa dance classes. These sessions in Salsa, Kizomba, Bachata and Rueda are free, a whole lot of fun, and suitable for the entire family. Can’t find a willing dance partner? No worries. These classes don’t require one nor do they require any previous dance experience.
