SUNCOAST Reimagined!

After 68 959 litres of paint, 2 503m² of glass, 9 347 m² of carpeting, 873 m² of vinyl flooring, 12 029 m² of tiling, 5 710 bags of cement, 129km of cabling and 1 913 513 bricks, the historic refurbishment of SUNCOAST is complete and that in just 18 months!

To celebrate this massive achievement, and the word-class entertainment destination that Suncoast is, we hosted a spectacular grand launch on 6 December. The launch took place in the new event space, The Globe, and hosted over 600 guests.

And since entertainment is the essence of what SUNCOAST is about, guests were treated to incredible performances which included a violinist being elevated in the middle of the venue; a virtual reality dance act, live music by local artist Lira – and perhaps one of our favourite moments – a dessert table which descended from the ceiling!

The Globe’s first official event featured Krishna Kumar Kunnath, better known as KK, who has mesmerised audiences around the world with his powerful and soulful voice for over two decades and lived up to his reputation by wowing the Durban audience with a spectacular performance!

Riaad Moosa and friends will make sure that the humour keeps flowing when they perform at the Globe this weekend. In the third edition of Riaad Moosa & Friends, he will be joined by some of South Africa’s comedy heavyweights – Chris Forrest, Celeste Ntuli, Joey Rasdien, Mo Vawda, Ndumiso Lindi, Neil Green and Sagie Murugan.

Meanwhile, Barnyard at SUNCOAST presents its first show, Big Top Rock, its legendary rock and roll circus show. Let the Big Top Ringmaster take you on a musical journey with music from rock groups; Def Leppard, ACDC, Kings of Leon, Aerosmith and Red Hot Chili Peppers to rock and pop icons; Elvis Presley, Pink, Elton John, Michael Jackson, Pitbull and many more. Fantastic music is complemented by a variety of acts that include pole, acrobatics, silk, trapeze and lyra – all performed to the beat of the rocking live band and singers.

Remember this is a family entertainment destination and the Barnyard caters for that with their Saturday Show, Shut Up and Dance. Featuring a live band with 3 dancers and 3 singers getting the party started from the opening song, ‘Can’t Stop the Feeling!’ by Justin Timberlake to get the kids up and dancing! The audience is split in two, making a fun dance-off competition to everything from Cheerleader to Macarena.

The show features music by Justin Bieber, Shawn Mendes, Selena Gomez, Meghan Trainor, DNCE, Bruno Mars, The Weeknd, OMI and many more. Starting at 2pm every Saturday until the 12 January, this show is a wonderful opportunity to experience the Kidz Rock band, singers and dancers in full flight as they rock the house with all the greatest dance hits. Let your kids kick up some dust, grab a friend and shut up & dance with Kidz Rock’s greatest dance party!

Still at the Barnyard Theatre, Comedy Bhangra is on for two nights, the 23 and 24 December; don’t miss this, a first time in Durban show that presents something funky and fresh for all the Bollywood Lovers! Stand-up comedians will have you in stitches, with their witty jokes and impersonations and you can enjoy the melodious voices of the Bollywood Singers. It’s an evening of great Indian Food, jokes and music, all under one roof!
