Amazing People Crazy Places
A review of TEDxCapeTown from Garry Reed.
What a day out engaging with the TEDx community. 20 Amazing speakers sharing amazing experiences and innovations, I like to refer to them as “Motivational Thinkers”.
They say laughter is the best medicine and here we started the day of with Angel Blythe Campey (if there was a prize for most stylishly dressed presenter Angel would get my vote because of her great shoes!) who educated us on what’s in a name,
“…with a name like this I was either going to become a comedian or a stripper”.
I particularly Loved Angela Horn speaking on minimalism and that less stuff reduces your stress levels and allows you to enjoy more –
“Choose instead to spend your money on experiences that will fill your soul”
Karen Dudley of The Kitchen spoke about our flavour identity and nurturing and embracing diversity through food, whilst Ivo Vegter explained the dangers of eating bananas and how MSG is actually good for you. The highlight of the day for me must have been Shannon Hope who ensured that there wasn’t a dry eye in the house whilst sharing her recollection of her life story in the most tear jerking fashion, she received a standing ovation.
We loved hosting Shannon, Adrian Saville and Craig Hinds from the band Watershed at the Southern Sun Cape Sun together with all the other speakers and organisers for a dinner the night before the big day.
This is the second year that Tsogo Sun has been supporting TEDxCapeTown in putting amazing local and international talent with their idea worth sharing on stage, a big thank you must go to Ian Duvenage from TEDxCapeTown for his ongoing commitment, we look forward to working closely with Ian and his team to help them grow this world class event from strength to strength.
The Tsogo Sun team left TEDxCapeTown 2013 inspired and energised. We are already looking forward to the 2014 event! To end off in the inspirational words of John McInroy,
“Wherever you go, go with your heart” #ShooOoops
